Imo NOA Elects New Leadership, Calls for Unity Among Members

The Imo chapter of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) recently elected a new executive team in a peaceful and well-organized election held at the Golden Crown Hotel in Imo State on November 3, 2024. Out of 68 registered members who turned out for the vote, Dr. Patrick Iwuchukwu emerged as the new chairman, securing 35 votes over his contender, Dr. Ginika Ohasiri, who garnered 28 votes. The election, governed by the association’s two-year leadership mandate, showcased a spirited democratic process within the professional community.

Prominent figures in the optometry community were present to observe the proceedings, including NOA’s National Vice President for the Eastern region, Dr. Jude Nguzoro, and Dr. Chinaka Nwosu, House Member Representative to the registrar. Civil society organizations were also present as observers, ensuring transparency in the electoral process.

Dr. Nguzoro, addressing the gathered members, extended gratitude to the electoral officers and organizers for their dedication to ensuring a seamless election. He called on members to prioritize unity and collaboration, urging them to approach the association’s growth with a renewed sense of commitment. He emphasized the importance of integrity, reminding members to act in line with their professional ethics and conscience.

Dr. Nwosu also underscored the need for harmony within the association, noting that the organization’s progress relies on collective efforts and a shared vision. “Unity and cooperation among members are crucial for our collective growth and for advancing the quality of eye care in our communities,” he remarked.

The newly elected officers include:

  • Chairman: Dr. Patrick Iwuchukwu
  • Secretary: Dr. Munachi Abiazie
  • Financial Secretary: Uche Patience
  • Assistant Secretary: Yadira Chukwu
  • Public Relations Officer 1: Ikenna Igwe
  • Public Relations Officer 2: Lilian Umunnakwe
  • Treasurer: Iwu Queeneth

As the new leadership takes charge, NOA Imo chapter members are hopeful that this fresh administration will further strengthen the association’s impact on optometric practices and foster collaboration among practitioners across the state.
