Imo CSOs and RARDUJA International Honor Outgoing NAPTIP Commander, Ernest Ogbu

Imo State Civil Society Organizations recently gathered to bid farewell to the outgoing State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Ernest Ogbu, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the agency and his dedication to duty.

The sendforth ceremony, held at the NAPTIP State Office in Owerri, Imo State, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, was attended by representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, the Imo State Committee on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (ISCEVAWG), the Department of State Services, Onurubie Coalition Group, OSAI Foundation, and RARDUJA International.

During the event, the Executive Director of OSAI Foundation, who chaired the occasion, commended Mr. Ogbu for his service and leadership. Quoting Ecclesiastes 3:1-11, she emphasized that there is a time and season for everything, highlighting how closely she had worked with him and his unwavering commitment to the civic space in Imo State.

Speaking on behalf of the civil society community, Udochukwu Chukwu expressed surprise at Mr. Ogbu’s transfer, noting that his impact had been deeply felt across the sector. He praised the outgoing commander’s diligence and emphasized that his legacy in Imo State would be remembered.

Hon. Eddy Duru, Chief Ambassador of NAPTIP and Founder of RARDUJA International and host of the event, lauded Mr. Ogbu’s tireless efforts since his appointment as the first NAPTIP Commander in Imo State in 2021. Duru acknowledged his relentless fight against human trafficking, describing him as a committed and hardworking leader who saw his role as a service to humanity.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council, Ifeanyi Nwanguma, noted that sharing the NUJ State Secretariat with the agency was not accidental. He expressed gratitude to Mr. Ernest Ogbu for his active participation and unwavering support for all NUJ projects and numerous programs. He also described him as a true friend of the media.

In his farewell address, Mr. Ogbu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Imo State. “I have no regrets. I am leaving the state without controversy, confrontation, allegations, or compromise—I am leaving clean, strong, and with a fulfilled heart,” he stated.

He also reflected on his initial reluctance to accept the assignment in Imo State but acknowledged that divine providence had made it possible. He extended his appreciation to the people for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure.
