The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of 18 new full-time undergraduate programmes at the University of Jos, set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to the institution’s Senior Deputy Registrar, Abdullahi Abdullahi, the approval followed a Resource Verification exercise in which the NUC assessed the university’s capacity in human and material resources to run the courses successfully.
The newly approved programmes span multiple disciplines, including B.Sc. Data Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Entrepreneurship, Public Administration, Forensic Science, Pharmacology, and Social Work.
Abdullahi described the development as a major step in expanding academic opportunities and equipping students with relevant skills to meet modern challenges. He noted that the approval currently covers undergraduate delivery only, with any future postgraduate expansion requiring further clearance from the NUC.
