The Lagos State Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has called on young engineers to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address Nigeria’s challenges and drive national development.
Speaking at the Graduateship Induction Programme held at the University of Lagos, Akoka, NSE Lagos Chairman, Olukorede Kesha, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in engineering, entrepreneurship, and nation-building.
“Nigeria is at a critical juncture where technology and talent must converge to solve our most pressing issues,” Kesha said. “AI is not the future—it is the present. As engineers, you are not just problem solvers but creators, innovators, and nation-builders.”
Kesha urged the inductees to embrace the AI revolution to design smarter infrastructure, tackle healthcare challenges, and create businesses that uplift communities. She stressed that while technology is a powerful tool, its impact depends on the creativity and ingenuity of those who wield it.
Guest Speaker Dideolu Falobi, Managing Director of Krestal Laurel, highlighted the importance of AI in modern engineering practices, stating, “For any young engineer, education is incomplete without understanding the basics of AI and its applications in engineering, construction, and infrastructure management.”
Falobi assured the graduates that while AI may disrupt traditional methods, it also opens doors to new opportunities. “Every new revolution creates new jobs and innovations. The key is to adapt, learn new skills, and position yourself to thrive in this changing landscape,” he said.
The event’s theme, “AI Revolution in Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and Nation Building,” underscored the urgency for young engineers to redefine possibilities and lead the charge in utilizing AI for sustainable growth.
Kesha concluded by encouraging the inductees to use their skills to transform Nigeria. “Be bold, visionary, and relentless. The future is yours to create,” she said.
