BBYDI Urges Parents to Ensure Gender Equality in Education, Opportunities

Parents have been called upon to ensure equal opportunities for male and female children to foster a more productive society. Speaking at a gender justice and inclusiveness dialogue in Ilorin West, Kwara State, Ambassador Bashirah Abdulganiyu, Team Lead of the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), condemned outdated practices favoring male children.

Ambassador Abdulganiyu stressed the importance of education, moral upbringing, and fundamental rights for all children, regardless of gender. She also urged state representatives at the National Assembly to oppose bills regulating non-governmental organisations.

Resource persons Oluwadamilola Bamidele and Aisha Masu’d emphasized the need for quality education for female children and encouraged youths to learn trades or vocations alongside their education for self-reliance.

Ambassador Rahma Aliyu, in her presentation on digital rights and gender justice, advised women to use social media cautiously and warned the elderly against sharing sensitive information to avoid fraud.

The Alangua of Adewole Ward, Alhaji Hannafi Hussain, praised the initiative and urged participants to promote peaceful coexistence in their communities. Over 150 residents attended the programme, including notable dignitaries and community leaders.
