The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, marked a productive weekend in Plateau State by launching the Renewed Hope Agricultural Empowerment Project (REHAEPI) in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area, and distributing relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bokkos.

During the REHAEPI flag-off, Sununu emphasized the initiative’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight-point agenda, focusing on food security, poverty reduction, and collaboration between federal agencies, states, and host communities. He described the project as a temporary yet impactful strategy to empower IDPs, make them self-reliant, and integrate them into sustainable livelihoods.

“The aim is to generate interest, develop skills, and empower IDPs,” he said, adding that the Federal Government is committed to training and equipping displaced persons for long-term success.

Sununu also announced plans to formalize collaborations through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the National Agricultural Land Development Agency (NALDA).

In addition to the project launch, the minister visited the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba (CFR), highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering community collaboration.

The event underscores the government’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced by displaced communities and ensuring sustainable development through targeted empowerment initiatives.
