Global beauty and wellness brand Oriflame has partnered with Becour, Energy Peace Partners, and Prado Power to fund a solar mini-grid project in Maijaki, a rural community in Niger State, Nigeria. The initiative, launched in 2023, aligns with Oriflame’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and its goal of mitigating climate change by supporting clean energy solutions.
The solar mini-grid, which now meets 45% of Maijaki’s electricity demand, provides clean, reliable, and affordable power to 455 households. It also supports various small businesses, including medicine stores, phone charging stations, barber shops, and provision stores, fostering economic growth in the region. Alongside the mini-grid, a Productive Use Hub has been established to enhance agricultural processing and create market opportunities for local farmers.
This initiative has significant social benefits, particularly for women. Women-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will own and manage the processing equipment funded through revenue generated by the project. These tools are expected to improve food security, increase income for smallholder farmers, and transform the lives of over 1,000 community members.
For the fourth consecutive year, Oriflame has been recognized as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders by the Financial Times and Statista. Beyond reducing emissions in its operations and supply chain, the company has invested in global climate action projects, showcasing its commitment to making a positive environmental and social impact.
Oriflame’s solar investment in Maijaki exemplifies its mission to improve livelihoods while advancing clean energy adoption. This collaboration underscores the company’s pledge to align business practices with sustainable development goals, benefitting both the environment and vulnerable communities.
