The Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) has announced plans to reposition the 2025 championship as a powerful platform for youth empowerment, job creation, and national development, with strong backing from President Bola Tinubu.
At a briefing held at the Abuja National Stadium, Group Chairman of Royal CBS, Mr. Khalifah Onu, said the upcoming university games would be guided by a structured roadmap and supported by several government agencies, including the National Sports Commission, Ministry of Youth Development, Nigeria Police Force, and the FRSC.
“This is not just about sports. NUGA 2025 is a vehicle for youth empowerment, national unity, and long-term career development,” Onu said. He emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to youth-focused initiatives, adding that the event’s impact would extend beyond the games.
Onu also noted efforts to revive the influence of NUGA, which has seen a dip in recent years, saying the initiative would help redistribute wealth and create job opportunities for young Nigerians.
Royal CBS Group Director-General, Ataboh Shehu, highlighted the organisation’s mission to emulate global best practices in sports development, with a focus on identifying young talents, offering scholarships, and building sustainable career pathways for student-athletes.
Preparations for the 2025 edition are reportedly 90% complete, with organisers confident of delivering a successful and impactful tournament.
