Polaris Bank, in partnership with key stakeholders, has reinforced its dedication to addressing Nigeria’s out-of-school children crisis. Since 2020, the Bank’s intervention programs have provided education opportunities to over 16,000 students, ensuring they have the resources to learn, thrive, and build better futures.
With a focus on empowering the girl child, the initiative also adopts an inclusive approach by supporting male students in targeted schools. Between November and December 2024, Polaris Bank visited eight schools across states, including Lagos, Imo, Kano, Kogi, and Abuja, with plans to extend activities to additional schools in January 2025.
Polaris Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Kayode Lawal, emphasized that the program aligns with the Bank’s sustainability goals to reduce Nigeria’s out-of-school children population and improve access to quality education. The initiative is designed to support 50,000 students by 2028, building on its significant progress over the last four years.
The program goes beyond providing school essentials to indigent students by incorporating the Brighter Minds Programme. This innovative project introduces brain-training techniques and emotional intelligence education, equipping young learners with skills to enhance focus, resilience, and confidence.
Schools benefiting from the initiative include Opebi Junior Grammar School in Lagos, Government Girls Secondary School in Kano, and National High School Arondizuogu in Imo State, among others. Polaris Bank’s collaborative efforts with EvolveCSR, schools, and parents have been instrumental in driving the program’s success.
