The Federal Lawmaker representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has accused local government officials of mismanaging funds meant for grassroots development, alleging that despite receiving over ₦400 million monthly, residents still lack basic amenities.
Speaking during a visit to affected communities, Ugochinyere lamented that many officials reside in Owerri instead of their localities, abandoning the people they were elected to serve. He decried the absence of clean water, electricity, and functional schools, insisting that “Ideato North and South that receive ₦400m plus every 30 days must feel the impact of those resources.”
The lawmaker disclosed that he had set up an emergency fund targeting ₦50 million to support families affected by terrorist attacks, noting that many victims, including children, lost their parents or sustained severe injuries.
“Our schools have collapsed. I’m on the streets every day sinking boreholes, installing transformers, and repairing schools. But the world must know my people receive ₦400m every month and there’s no sign of it,” he said.
In reaction, Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Mbadiwe Emelumba, dismissed the allegations, describing Ugochinyere as a “propagandist,” and challenged him to provide documentary evidence to support his claims.
