The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has said that recent technological advancements deployed by the Service are significantly improving national security through more efficient border management.

Speaking at a high-level interactive forum on government-citizen engagement in Kaduna, Nandap explained that the newly implemented Border Management System allows for target-based profiling using Interactive Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) technologies. These tools enable the profiling of individuals traveling to Nigeria before their arrival, enhancing the country’s ability to preempt threats.

Nandap also highlighted the Service’s community-focused recruitment strategy, emphasizing the inclusion of credible individuals from border communities to boost intelligence gathering and foster stronger collaboration.

“We liaise with community leaders and ask them to provide credible sons and daughters from their areas because we risk losing crucial cooperation if we don’t engage border residents,” she said.

The CG noted that over 30 immigration control posts have been established across the northern borders to register migrants entering from ECOWAS member countries.
