A total of 87 farmers in Lagos State have received N11.4 million in grants under the 2025 Agricultural Support Programme of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Of the beneficiaries, 27 youths and women received N200,000 each along with farming inputs to improve productivity, while 60 others, selected from the state’s senatorial districts, received N100,000 each under the Every Home A Garden 2.0 project.
The grants were targeted at individuals engaged in fisheries, vegetable farming, poultry, garri processing, beekeeping, and zobo production.
The programme also includes a youth-focused initiative involving 120 students from 24 schools across the state’s six education districts. Each school nominated five students from junior and senior secondary levels to participate in agricultural training.
Speaking during the cheque presentation ceremony at the Lagos House, Ikeja, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, praised the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for supporting the programme with N60 million.
She outlined the four key components of the RHI Agricultural Support Programme: the Women Agricultural Support Programme, Youth Agricultural Support Programme, Every Home A Garden, and the Young Farmers Club. Sanwo-Olu said the initiative was being launched simultaneously across all 36 states.
She described the programme as a strategic effort to encourage women and youth to engage in agriculture, strengthen food security, and promote financial independence.
Also speaking at the event, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, said the initiative would boost household food production and promote self-sufficiency.
Experienced farmer Femi Ojelade and the Lagos State Coordinator for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Omolara Oguntuyi, urged young people to see agriculture as a viable career path and emphasised the benefits of organic farming.
