In a groundbreaking move to propel women entrepreneurs to the forefront of Nigeria’s digital economy, the Association of Nigerian Women Business Network (ANWBN) has unveiled an innovative e-commerce platform. This pioneering initiative enables women to sell goods globally, earn a sustainable income, and combat inflation.
At the ANWBN Annual Summit 2024, themed “Future-Ready Entrepreneur: Skill up to Scale up,” outgoing National Coordinator Mrs. Angela Ajala emphasized the crucial role of digital skills in bridging the knowledge gap. She noted that women often lack the expertise to effectively utilize their phones, hindering their online presence
Yeye Otunba Gbemisola Oduntan, the newly elected National Coordinator, stressed the importance of capacity building for women to tap into e-commerce and the association’s forthcoming website. She advocated for training and retraining strategies, citing the demise of businesses that failed to scale up.
Bamidele Abiodun, wife of the Ogun State Governor, highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment in achieving sustainable development. She referenced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which prioritize gender equality, women’s empowerment, and poverty alleviation. SDG 5 focuses on gender equality, while SDG 1 aims to eradicate poverty [5).
The ANWBN platform seeks to address these challenges by providing women with the necessary tools to thrive in the digital economy. With over 75 associations under its umbrella, ANWBN is committed to fostering sustainable entrepreneurial growth through research, advocacy, policy reforms, and capacity building initiatives.
As Ajala aptly put it, “Scaling up requires more than passion; it demands knowledge, expertise, and the continuous pursuit of growth.” By embracing technology, innovation, and adaptability, women entrepreneurs can transcend limitations and forge partnerships for a brighter future.
