Experts Highlight Technology and Infrastructure as Key to Transforming Nigeria’s Property Sector

Industry leaders at the SPROUT 2024 conference hosted by GoodTenants emphasized the critical roles of technology and infrastructure in advancing Nigeria’s property sector. Held on Thursday under the theme “Pioneering the Future,” the event brought together experts to discuss solutions for challenges in property management, waste management, and urban development.

Yemi Stephens, managing partner at Estatelinks Limited, highlighted the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation on property management. He pointed to innovations like predictive analytics and virtual reality tours, which streamline operations and enhance tenant experiences. Stephens also praised tools like GoodTenants for improving efficiency and ensuring value for tenants and landlords.

Professor Timothy Nubi, from the University of Lagos’ Estate Management Department, stressed the importance of foundational infrastructure in enabling effective technology adoption. He advocated for large-scale housing projects and mortgage installment plans as essential strategies for tackling housing affordability in Nigeria.

During a panel session on “Shaping Urban Futures through Youth Engagement,” Boluwatife Arewa, founding partner of Scrapays Inc., redefined waste as an economic resource. He explained how Scrapays’ technology incentivizes waste recovery, allowing property managers to generate revenue while promoting sustainable operations.

Derin Phillips, senior special assistant at Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, underscored the significance of public-private collaboration in shaping Nigeria’s property landscape. He highlighted the Federal Government’s blockchain policy as a tool for enhancing governance transparency and called for increased awareness of beneficial schemes.

GoodTenants founder, Adekunle Jinadu, announced a forthcoming partnership with Scrapays Inc. aimed at helping facility managers monetize waste recovery. Jinadu also introduced finance products developed in collaboration with AXA Mansard, including a rent guarantee product for landlords and a home improvement product, showcasing the potential for innovative solutions to redefine Nigeria’s property sector.
