Position Overview: Program Coordinator, Just Economies – Oxfam Nigeria

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Contract Type: Fixed-term, Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Duration: 12 months, with a potential for renewal based on performance and funding
Start Date: December 2, 2024

Salary Scale: Grade Level C2, Annual Gross Salary (N9,533,946.00)

Role Summary

As Program Coordinator, Just Economies, you will play a pivotal role in driving Oxfam Nigeria’s economic justice initiatives. In this role, you’ll oversee our Just Economies program, leading strategy, fundraising, project implementation, and external partnerships. The Coordinator will focus on securing donor engagement, crafting grant proposals, and strengthening partnerships to amplify Oxfam’s influence on issues such as tax justice, economic policy, labor rights, and access to finance for MSMEs. This position offers the opportunity to lead impactful projects and create resilient livelihood opportunities that advance the economic welfare of communities across Nigeria.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Shape Oxfam’s strategy for economic justice in Nigeria, analyzing trends in food security, resilient livelihoods, and economic policies.
  • Act as a thought leader on urban and rural livelihoods, employability, and market systems improvement.
  • Drive policy and program visibility for Oxfam’s Just Economies program, advocating for sustainable and equitable economic practices.
  • Facilitate cross-program learning and knowledge sharing among staff, partners, and the wider Oxfam network.

Program Management and Implementation:

  • Ensure that all projects under the Just Economies pillar align with Oxfam’s strategic goals and are executed efficiently.
  • Lead teams to meet program objectives, maintain quality standards, and adhere to timelines.
  • Collaborate with Oxfam’s technical advisers, finance teams, and MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) units to optimize project delivery.
  • Coordinate with relevant ministries, research institutions, and private sector entities for policy engagement and project support.

Partnership and Resource Management:

  • Cultivate relationships with trade unions, economic interest groups, producer organizations, and other NGOs to foster impactful partnerships.
  • Collaborate with private sector partners and design Oxfam’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy for Nigeria.
  • Represent Oxfam at the national level in economic justice dialogues, building a strong network of influence.

People and Financial Management:

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to project teams within the Just Economies Program.
  • Ensure compliance with Oxfam’s Code of Conduct, promoting integrity, inclusiveness, and mutual respect among staff.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure that all projects are cost-effective and compliant with donor expectations.

Fundraising and Business Development:

  • Lead donor engagement and scanning, identifying funding opportunities in alignment with Oxfam’s mission.
  • Develop capacity statements, concept notes, and project proposals that prioritize economic justice, resilience, and food security.
  • Maintain productive relationships with donors, providing high-quality project reports and updates as needed.

  • Advanced analytical skills and a strong background in economic policy, market systems development, and private sector engagement.
  • Proven track record in leadership roles, with the ability to mentor teams, inspire change, and promote Oxfam’s values.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders, including donors and external institutions.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and a talent for prioritizing tasks to achieve strategic objectives.
  • A commitment to gender equality and the rights of marginalized communities, with an understanding of Oxfam’s One Program Approach.
