The Global Youth Climate Training Programme (GYCT) is a free capacity-building program that equips people aged 16–35 with the knowledge and confidence necessary to engage in international climate policy.
The training is a free, virtual, structured training on climate policy with a chance to attend COP29. GYCT, with the kind support of the ClimateWork Foundation, is running a second iteration of the program from September 3–October 1, 2024, with a final session on November 1, 2024.
Last year, the program was all about demystifying the UNFCCC and its many tracks of negotiation. Yet, on the margins (and increasingly moving to the heart) of COPs are the actions of non-state actors: corporations announcing pledges for fossil fuel phase-out, cities making net-zero promises, and finance being promised by private entities. This year, the program focusses on cohort and community building between participants. And finally, accepted participants will have the chance to apply for a bursary of up to £3000 to attend COP29.
