Job Title: Finance & IT Intern

Job Overview:
The Finance & IT Intern role at WaterAid Nigeria offers a unique learning opportunity for young professionals. It aims to equip interns with hands-on experience in international development and prepare them for careers in this sector or related professional fields. The intern will support the Finance and IT departments in various financial and technical capacities, contributing to the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Cash Management:
- Handle petty cash, ensuring its accuracy, security, and documentation.
- Maintain petty cash levels by collecting funds from the bank as necessary.
- Assist in posting financial transactions into systems such as SUN and Vision.
- Support monthly reconciliations, remittances, and payments.
Filing and Documentation:
- Organize and maintain accounting records and financial documentation.
- Stamp “paid” on all processed payment vouchers and supporting documents.
- Ensure accurate documentation of WaterAid Nigeria’s income and expenses.
Internal Controls:
- Provide monthly updates to staff on the status of advances.
- Reconcile outstanding balances on staff debtor and creditor accounts.
Partner Finance Management:
- Assist in processing partner funds transfers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance and IT departments.
Skills and Personal Qualities:
- Strong organizational and planning skills to manage tasks efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain constructive relationships.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in routine tasks.

Essential Criteria:
- B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Business Administration, or related social sciences.
- Completion of National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC).
- Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Desirable Criteria:
- Student membership in a professional accounting body (ICAN, ACCA, etc.).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
