The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) says it is working with local authorities and humanitarian partners to ensure the safe relocation and recovery of families displaced by recent flooding in Garin Kolo.

In a statement on Thursday, the agency announced that 32 temporary shelters have been erected, alongside 10 emergency latrines and a water reservoir, while borehole drilling is set to begin soon to provide a sustainable water source.

Relief supplies including mats, mosquito nets, blankets, and buckets have also been distributed. Medical teams have treated 35 patients, with 22 discharged, three pregnant women receiving ongoing care, and an elderly person given special attention.

To strengthen safety and healthcare, YOSEMA said it has set up a temporary security post and a clinic desk at the relocation site.

In a show of support, the Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Grema, visited the victims, while Governor Mai Mala Buni assured that “no one will be left behind in these trying moments.”

YOSEMA urged residents in flood-prone areas to heed early warning signals and relocate while conditions remain safe, stressing that the response reflects the “power of collaboration and solidarity in times of crisis.”
