The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast, warning of widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In a statement released Sunday in Abuja, the agency said northern states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna are expected to experience early morning thunderstorms, with more rain expected later in the day across other parts of the region, including Borno, Jigawa, and Yobe.
The central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, and Kogi, is also expected to witness thunderstorms with rain, especially in the afternoon and evening hours. NiMet forecast generally sunny conditions with cloud patches during the mornings.
In the southern parts of the country, light morning rains are likely over states like Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with heavier afternoon and evening thunderstorms anticipated in other southern states, including Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Imo.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, the pattern continues with isolated thunderstorms, scattered rains, and cloudy skies predicted across most parts of the country. Northern states such as Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, and Taraba are expected to face heavier rainfall by midweek.
NiMet also warned of strong winds preceding rainstorms, urging the public to take precautions. “Secure loose objects, avoid driving under heavy rain, and unplug electrical appliances during storms,” the agency advised.
Airline operators were also reminded to obtain weather updates for safe flight planning.
