FCTA Workers Begin 3-Day Protest Over Unpaid Entitlements, Staff Neglect

Post Date : June 27, 2025

Workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have announced a three-day protest beginning Monday, June 30, 2025, to demand better welfare and accountability from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The President of JUAC, Rifkatu Iortyer, in a statement released on Thursday, accused the minister of ignoring critical issues affecting workers’ rights and conditions of service. Members of the union and affiliate bodies are expected to converge daily at the minister’s office gate in Area 11, Garki, from 7:00 a.m.

Among the grievances listed are the non-promotion of staff since 2023, unresolved salary discrepancies, unpaid allowances, and the continued deduction of what the union describes as illegal levies. The union also called for the removal of the FCT Civil Service Commission chairman and rejected the appointment of overseeing directors.

Other complaints include the non-domestication of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), restricted access to the salary portal, lack of overhead since December 2024, and non-payment of health workers’ hazard allowances and wage awards.

The union further decried the neglect of training opportunities for staff, the growing number of out-of-school pupils in FCTA primary schools, and the non-payment of arrears owed to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) enforcement squad.

This latest action follows an ongoing strike by FCT teachers since April, over the federal government’s failure to implement the proposed N70,000 minimum wage and other outstanding demands.
