The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has applauded the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for the arrest of the suspected mastermind behind the recent massacre in Yeletawa, Benue State, which claimed several lives and destroyed properties.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced on Tuesday that 53 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with violent attacks in both Benue and Plateau states. He assured that the suspects will be charged in court without delay.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the agency’s Deputy Director of Communication and Media, Paul Odenyi, NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the arrest as a significant step toward justice and a reassurance of the government’s commitment to citizens’ safety.
Issa-Onilu noted that the swift response of security forces had brought a measure of relief to affected communities. He emphasized that the action would also serve as a warning to others planning similar crimes.
Highlighting the role of NOA in promoting national values and security awareness, he referenced the Nigerian Promise under the National Values Charter, which identifies peace and security as a core responsibility of leadership.
He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s directive during his visit to Benue State, calling on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice — a move he credited with prompting decisive action.
The NOA Director General praised the coordination among security agencies, calling their joint efforts crucial in addressing the country’s growing security challenges.
