In a bid to enhance evidence-based communication and strengthen factual public reporting, JournoTech has conducted a capacity-building training for the staff of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Imo State. The session brought together representatives from all the local government areas in the state.
Facilitated by Harriet Ijeomah, Nigeria Product Manager for NewsAssist AI, the training introduced participants to NewsAssit Ai, a customized AI tool designed to support professional reporting and institutional documentation. The tool is tailored for journalists, law enforcement officers, and other professionals who rely on verified data and structured inputs for their work.
Addressing participants during the internal session, Ijeomah emphasized the essence of integrating ethical artificial intelligence into official documentation processes. “This AI is not for just any random task. It won’t fabricate stories or invent details. It works strictly with verified reports and structured input,” she explained.
Highlighting the integrity of the tool, she added, “It’s built with ethics in mind. If someone tries to concoct information, it will return errors. This protects both the journalist and the subject of the report.”
In her closing remarks, the NOA Director expressed appreciation to JournoTech and partners behind the initiative for bringing such a timely and relevant tool to their doorstep. “We didn’t have to pay for this. Knowledge found us in our workplace, and for that, we are grateful. We will ensure everything we learned today will be put to good use,” she said.
Staff members applauded the initiative, noting that the training would improve the accuracy and accountability of their work across the state.
The session ended with a renewed commitment by NOA Imo to deploy the tool in promoting national values, countering misinformation, and ensuring factual civic education across their local units.
