The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development is driving a transformative agenda to boost Nigeria’s livestock sector, leveraging strategic partnerships and innovative programs to enhance production and economic growth.
During a courtesy visit by delegations from NIRSAL Plc, Dabareji Farms, and other stakeholders, Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha outlined the ministry’s vision to strengthen the livestock value chain. “Our focus is on food security, economic growth, and sustainable solutions for animal husbandry, disease control, and market access,” Maiha said.
Saad Hamidu, representing NIRSAL Plc, emphasized closing gaps in the value chain, highlighting a new 1,500-capacity meat-processing factory in Abuja as a step toward sustainable supply systems. “This facility supports the supply chain and drives growth in livestock processing,” he said, noting the collaboration with the ministry to secure financing and organize systems.
Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, the ministry’s permanent secretary, stressed the importance of disease control to meet export standards. “Ensuring animals are sourced from disease-free zones is essential for trade,” she noted.
Celestine Ayok of Dabareji Farms discussed plans to restore grazing reserves and dams to improve water access and productivity. “Revitalized infrastructure will support grazing systems and enhance the sector,” Ayok said.
The visit also highlighted youth training programs to equip future livestock managers with essential skills, reinforcing the ministry’s commitment to a sustainable and economically viable livestock industry.
