The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has inaugurated the AI Academy in Abuja, an initiative designed to empower Nigerians with essential artificial intelligence (AI) skills. Launched in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation, the program offers free online courses to students, youths, and civil servants nationwide.
During the launch, Nnaji emphasized the transformative potential of AI, urging Nigerians to register before the January 30, 2025 deadline. He highlighted the academy as a platform not just for learning but for driving national progress in key sectors like agriculture, healthcare, education, and security. “AI is reshaping industries and solving complex problems globally. It’s vital that Nigeria leads the charge, not just keeps pace,” he stated.
The program offers self-paced courses covering AI fundamentals, ethics, tools, and practical applications. Participants will also have the chance to compete for AI ambassadorial roles and internships with Intel Corporation, gaining valuable global experience. Nnaji stressed that these skills are crucial for preparing Nigerians to become innovators and problem-solvers who can tackle the country’s unique challenges.
The minister underscored AI’s role in nation-building, describing it as a transformative tool capable of unlocking economic opportunities and creating new frontiers. He encouraged Nigerians to seize the chance to redefine the nation’s future, stating, “By equipping our citizens with AI skills, we are laying the foundation for technological and economic leadership.”
Registration for the AI Academy is open via the Ministry’s website at https://scienceandtech.gov.ng/academy. Nnaji urged all eligible participants to enroll and take advantage of this groundbreaking opportunity to shape Nigeria’s innovation-driven future.
