Over 70,000 people across eight Local Government Areas in Kaduna State are set to receive free medical care through an outreach spearheaded by Amos Gwamna Magaji, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Health Services. Beneficiaries hail from Kagarko, Jema’a, Kachia, Jaba, Zango Kataf, Kauru, Sanga, and Kaura Local Government Areas.
During an inspection of the initiative, held at selected Primary Health Care Centres, Magaji, who represents the Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, highlighted the program’s comprehensive services. These include HIV screening, laboratory tests, and treatment for Hepatitis B and C, malaria, diabetes, hypertension, and surgical conditions such as hernia, lipoma, hydrocele, and appendicitis. Vision care, including refraction, medical glasses, and cataract surgeries, is also part of the outreach.
Magaji emphasized that the initiative, organized in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Development Agency, aims to mitigate healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable populations, especially amidst economic difficulties and rising medical costs.
He further informed attendees about the progress of his bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, which has passed its third reading in the House of Representatives and awaits Senate concurrence. The Kaduna State Government has already handed over the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan to the Federal Government, paving the way for the centre’s inclusion in the 2025 Federal Budget.
Ibrahim Mohammed, the leader of the medical team, explained that the five-day outreach includes phased advocacy, screenings, medication distribution, and surgeries, ensuring adequate medical supplies for over 100,000 residents across the eight locations.
Community leaders, including the Agwom Kachia, HRH Zamani Dogonyaro, expressed their gratitude, lauding the lawmaker for providing much-needed healthcare services. Beneficiaries praised the outreach for alleviating the burden of accessing treatment and improving rural healthcare.
