Adventure Commodities Limited has launched a new organic sesame hulling plant in Kano State, a strategic move aimed at boosting Nigeria’s agro-export capabilities. The facility, designed to enhance sesame seed processing, is expected to create 300 direct and indirect jobs, benefiting the local community and supporting the country’s growing export sector.
The plant, which will process 7,000 metric tons (MT) of sesame seeds annually, is equipped with advanced technology to improve both the quantity and quality of Nigeria’s sesame exports. Sheeju Prabhakaran, the general manager of the plant, emphasized that the facility would meet the rising global demand for premium hulled sesame seeds, particularly in key international markets such as the USA, Europe, and Asia.
Prabhakaran pointed out that the absence of a similarc in the region had historically limited the export capacity of local farmers. With the new plant, he is optimistic that sesame production and export potential in Kano will significantly increase. The plant is expected to stimulate sustainable growth in the state’s agricultural sector while enhancing the productivity of local farmers by providing them with a reliable market for their crops.
The newly launched plant adheres to international standards for food manufacturing, incorporating modern technologies like dry hulling and color sorting. A full quality assurance program has been implemented, along with training and monitoring systems, to ensure that the products meet global quality standards and offer traceability from farm to delivery.
Derek Olokor, the Treasury Director at Adventure Commodities, underscored the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. He highlighted that the new facility aligns with the company’s long-term mission to adopt responsible production practices, ultimately improving the livelihoods of local farmers and contributing to the region’s economic development.
With this new sesame hulling plant, Nigeria is set to strengthen its position in the global sesame market. The facility not only offers a solution to the supply chain challenges faced by local farmers but also demonstrates Adventure Commodities’ ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s agro-export capabilities and provide fresh opportunities for farmers and international buyers alike.
