Plan International, a non-governmental organization, has empowered 240 women and youth in Adamawa and Borno states through skills training. The initiative aims to boost their economic capacities and contribute to peacebuilding efforts in the Lake Chad region.
The organization recently commissioned a livelihood incubation center in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State to facilitate this training. Leticia Hijazo Conejos, the Lake Chad Programme Coordinator, emphasized the importance of equipping young people with technical skills and knowledge to secure their livelihoods and make informed decisions.
The training program covers various skills, including business development and food production. Approximately 280 young people have already benefited from the initiative.
Peace Audu Samson, Vice Chairman of Fufore Local Government Area, commended Plan International for the project and expressed the council’s commitment to leveraging the incubation center to train more women and youth. She highlighted the administration’s focus on youth and women’s empowerment.
One of the beneficiaries, Deborah Emmanuel, shared her experience, stating that the training has equipped her with animal breeding skills, enabling her to start her own farm.
Plan International’s initiative, funded by the German Ministry of Economic Development and implemented by HARAF and German Cooperation, is a significant step towards empowering vulnerable communities in the Lake Chad region.
