MTN Group has announced the election of its President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, to the GSMA Board of Directors for the 2025-2026 term, spotlighting MTN’s commitment to advancing digital connectivity across Africa. The GSM Association (GSMA), a global non-profit representing mobile operators, plays a vital role in shaping the future of mobile communication worldwide.
Ralph Mupita’s election to the GSMA board marks a significant step for MTN and Africa’s digital progress, as he aims to promote technology-driven economic growth and inclusion. In his new role, Mupita plans to focus on what he calls the “African agenda,” including the G6 goals, which aim to close gaps in connectivity, boost investment, and promote climate-smart initiatives to ensure sustainable development across the continent.
The MTN Group shared that Mupita’s work on the board would drive initiatives for sustainable growth through mobile technology, which has become essential to economic and social transformation in Africa. This focus aligns with MTN’s mission to empower African communities through improved digital access, setting a path for economic upliftment and innovation.
“I am honored to join the GSMA board during this transformative period of digital adoption across Africa,” Mupita stated. He emphasized, “Mobile technology has a critical role in addressing the challenges our communities face and unlocking Africa’s full potential, ensuring no one is left behind in this journey to a more connected future.”
Mupita’s leadership on the GSMA board is expected to further MTN’s role in bridging connectivity gaps in Africa, promoting investments, and reinforcing digital solutions for sustainable development. As MTN continues to expand its footprint, Mupita’s influence is poised to shape Africa’s digital transformation, with long-term impacts on the continent’s economy and global digital integration.
