World Humanitarian Day | August 19

Post Date : August 19, 2024

Today, we pause to recognise the selfless dedication of humanitarian workers who, despite countless challenges, continue to stand at the forefront of crises, offering care, protection, and hope.

Our team believes that acts of humanity deserve not only to be performed but also to be celebrated and shared, so that others can be inspired to join in this vital work.

Therefore, on this day, the United Nations marks World Humanitarian Day to honour these courageous individuals who put their lives on the line to serve others. As the UN reminds us, this day is about “paying tribute to humanitarian workers killed and injured in the course of their work and to honour all aid and health workers who continue, despite the odds, to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need.”

“Our 2024 WHD efforts will confront the normalisation of attacks on civilians, including humanitarians, and impunity under International Humanitarian Law (IHL). The aim is to build public support to help pressure parties in conflict and world leaders to take action to ensure the protection of civilians, including humanitarians, in conflict zones. We will also release the latest aid worker security data and trends and hold events around the world to demand that those in power “act for humanity.” Join the campaign!

At Harsco Global, we are proud to play our part in this mission. partnering with development organisations focused on health, agriculture, women, and youth development, helping to amplify their efforts and bring their stories to the world. We believe in the power of storytelling to create change and foster a global community committed to humanity’s well-being.

This World Humanitarian Day, we echo the call to #ActForHumanity and #ProtectHumanity. The time is now to step up and show that kindness, love, and care can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need them most.

Let us honour the spirit of humanity by taking action and creating a world where every person, no matter their circumstance, receives the support and compassion they deserve.
